GIS

GIS is also referred to as Geographical Information system.

GIS is a powerful app that is used to store , manipulate, analyze and present information about geographical space.

The most powerful ability of GIS that distinguishes it from other apps i.e., CAD, is the ability to integrate multiple sources of data and analyze space.

GIS allows users to employ many different and powerful tools to analyze the spatial distribution of their data.

Spatial data entered into GIS should fit in either of the two data structures that is; Raster data or Vector data.

Raster data includes aerial photographs, satellite images, geographical results, soil maps and survey maps.

Vector data on the other hand represents materials as points, lines and areas. Thus it is the most appropriate when representing discontinuous data.
